Leaving Behind Culture, Not Buildings

The final article of our manifesto describes our furthest dream: "What we leave behind is not buildings, but culture. We dream of building a town. But a town is not its buildings — it is culture, and culture is how people live.

We want the children of a hundred years from now to say: they were not a company that left buildings; they were a company that left a culture." I have written of the dream of someday building a town; this article exists to pin that dream down.

A town's success is not decided by the grandeur of its architecture — we all know places lined with splendid buildings where no way of living remains. Culture is how people live: never mocking a challenge, rejoicing together, cherishing the one person before you, celebrating first, never running.

Everything this series has described is the culture we hope to leave. Buildings decay; ways of living, passed from person to person, do not. What do you want to leave behind?
