Mother Teresa — Small Things With Great Love
The small nun who kept lifting the dying from Calcutta's streets was a person who would choose the side of one person in an alley over any award ceremony. Her words are told worldwide: "We can do no great things — only small things with great love."
Structurally, her method was inefficient: against the vast problem of poverty, embracing one person at a time is unbearably slow, and critics always demanded systemic solutions. But she never left the one in front of her — not the million in the statistics, but the one in her arms.
The depth of love poured into that one person ultimately moved people across the world, moved institutions, and raised countless successors. The first article of our manifesto — "It begins with one smile" — is our wish to stand in the far rear of that lineage.
Whenever "changing the world" begins to spin hollow, the prescription is the same: return to the one person before you.
