The Math Behind Delighting Ten Billion People

We chase one number — not revenue, not profit, but the number of people we have delighted. Ten thousand, a million, a hundred million — and ten billion. Yes, more than the world's population. Count person × occasion — delighted by our cosmetics, by their health, ten and twenty years on — and ten billion is almost modest.

Why count joy instead of sales? Order. Grow the count of delighted people, and revenue always follows; start counting from revenue, and a company eventually yields to the temptation of carving away joy to make numbers. What you count determines your company's character. In our meetings flies the question: "How many smiles is that?"

How many people did your work delight today? Start counting.
