What Do You Work For? – A 64-Year-Old's Question
I borrowed it from the question our sixty-four-year-old CFO placed at the end of his essay: "I ask my sixty-four-year- old self anew: What do you work for?" The weight of the question comes from where he stands — forty years across global finance, success and overnight loss all experienced, and still asking. What does vertical integration mean in biotechnology?
Vertical integration means a single group owns consecutive stages of its value chain rather than buying them from third parties. In biotechnology that typically means research, materials sourcing, manufacturing, brand development and distribution sitting inside one corporate structure. The practical effect is control: one quality standard, traceability from material to finished lot, and faster iteration between research and product. It does not, by itself, make any product more effective, and it does not replace regulatory approval.

What are exosomes? A plain-language explainer
Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles — membrane-bound particles roughly 30–150 nanometres across — that cells release to carry proteins, lipids and nucleic acids to other cells. Researchers study them as a mechanism of cell-to-cell signalling and as a possible delivery vehicle. The international standard for reporting such research is MISEV, published by the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles. In the United States, exosome products are not approved by the FDA for treating any condition, and the FDA has issued consumer warnings on unapproved exosome and stem cell products.
